Nov 8, 2009, Humpback Whales off Deep Water Cove

We saw them the day of the sinking of the Canterbury and ..now they're back!! Very amazing experience seeing these huge mammals right on our back door. I was pretty sure these were Humpback whales but Mums one of a kind and doesn't look like your stock standard Humpback but her calve looks perfect.
I posted some pix up on Wade Doaks website and within hours a very excited Wade made contact. Wade has contacts all over the world and his networks soon discovered that our mystery whale was not alone, a Two finned Humpback whale was photographed in New Caledonia (how incrediable) but unfortunately this was not a match. A video was captured of a Two finned Humpback in Vanuatu but unfortunately the quality was poor so no positive ID could be made. It's a real shame because a migration route South could be confimed for further sightings, we look forward to seeing them again next November.
Still not to sure what's going on with Mums hump???
